BARBAYANNIS

The year was 1860, when Efstathios J. Barbayannis arrived at the picturesque port of Plomari, on the rich, fertile and sunny island of Lesvos, Greece. The island's running waters gave life to an excellent variety of aniseed and to hundreds of rare, sweet-smelling herbs. Efstathios Barbayannis brought his experience and knowledge of the distillation process with him from the Russian city of Odessa and started his own distillery which produced first-rate quality ouzo.

The Barbayannis family has faithfully preserved the 150-year-old ouzo tradition, following in the footsteps of Efstathios Barbayannis. The family carefully selects high quality, natural ingredients for its ouzo and pays special attention to the ouzo distillation procedure, which is still carried out in the old, traditional way.

CAIR

Cair is a company operating according to the modern marketing rules for the production of high quality wines. Continuing the century-long wine tradition of Rhodes, Cair is constantly developing by making modernization investments. It has already completed projects amounting to EUR 2,3 million and is preparing a great investment of approximately EURO 13 million to be completed in the end of the year 2007, including its reinstallation in very modern covered premises of 10.000 square meters. Half of these facilities are already operative. Cair has established the small productivity of the Rhodes vines aiming to obtain a high quality raw material. It has also implemented very strict standards for the quality separation of grapes favouring a new system of ?honest harvest? which ensures an absolute quality selection.

Constantin Gofas

In 1959, Gofas family had the privilege to make their privately owned vineyard productive in two most eminent areas of Nemea, i.e. Koutsi and Daphne. Those days, Gofas family cultivated their land with traditional methods and produced selected wines using manually-operated means for vinification. In 1998, Constantinos Gofas, brought up viniculturist, implants new international varieties creating exemplary wine blends. C. Gofas has put into practice innovative vinification techniques and has modernized the wine-industry with new mechanical equipment, achieving production of high wine quality.

Ouzo Plomari by Issidoros Arvanitis was created in 1894. Issidoros Arvanitis, a persistent perfectionist, had successfully achieved the highest challenge in distilling. He attained the perfect blend of aromatic extracts in a final blend, which was neither dominant nor overwhelming.

The area of Plomari haw always been the most renowned ouzo producing area, for a good reason. The introduction of Plomari into the ritual of distillation began a long time ago at the point where East meets West, where the scents of the Orient blend softly with the Byzantine whispers on its shores. The prosperous and life ? loving people of Plomari were seamen and entrepreneurs, widely traveled citizens of the world. Their island outlook perfectly matched this strong and fragrant spirit, which carried them away whenever their ships were anchored.
